Gamma Ray “Hell Yeah!!! The Awesome Foursome“
Lange haben die Gamma Ray-Anhänger warten müssen auf diesen Moment, jahrelang sogar. Doch jetzt ist es endlich soweit: Die deutschen Metal-Urgesteine zeigen uns endlich, wie es damals auf ihrer ersten Nordamerika-Tour so ausgesehen und geklungen hat, und feiern damit noch gleich ihr 20-jähriges Bandjubiläum ab. Zusätzlich zu der Live-DVD werden die Fans auch mit einem knapp 65 Minuten langen Audio-Mitschnitt vom Konzert in Montreal, Kanada beglückt. Natürlich hat sich der Verfasser dieser Zeilen nicht zweimal bitten lassen, sich diese Doppel-CD zu Gemüte zu führen.
Die Trackliste liest sich wie ein Best Of der Band, und wie ein solches mutet der vorliegende Silberling auch an, nur dass das Ganze halt live ist. Die Atmosphäre war sicher nicht gerade schlecht im Land des Ahornblattes, aber die Versuche des deutschen Quartetts, die Stimmung anzuheizen, muten eher aufgezwungen und künstlich an. In diesen Momenten der Publikumsanimation fühlt man sich mitunter an Deep-Purple-Konzerte erinnert. Etwas altbacken zwar, aber durchaus passend für eine Band, die nun auch schon seit zwei Dekaden Musik macht. Technisch bewegen sich die Gammastrahl-Metaller auf gewohnt hohem Niveau, abgemischt und produziert ist die Scheibe sogar hervorragend. Als besonderes Schmankerl gibt's neben den älteren Klassikern noch vier Lieder vom neusten Album „Land Of The Free II“ zu hören.
Wer auf der Suche nach einer qualitativ hochstehenden, live eingespielten „Best-Of“-CD von Gamma Ray ist, greift zu. Alle anderen, insbesondere jene, die schon praktisch alle Alben der Band ihr Eigen nennen, können auf das gute Stück verzichten, denn das Prädikat „live“ bringt hier einen nicht allzu grossen Mehrwert.
