Holy Moses „Agony of Death“
Das neue Album aus dem Hause Holy Moses hört auf den Namen „Agony of Death“, was soviel bedeutet wie, die Schmerzen des Todes. Und obwohl mir das Album sicherlich keine Todesschmerzen und auch keine sonstige Schmerzen beschert hat, konnte es mich dennoch nicht 100% überzeugen.
Etwas muss man Holy Moses anrechnen. Die Atmosphäre die die Band auf „Agony of Death“ erschafft, ist wirklich von einer sehr dichten Düsternis durchzogen, was wiederum den Songs gut zu Gesicht steht. Auch die Instrumentalfraktion liefert eine mehr als nur guten Job ab, während der Gesang von Frau Classen in meinen Augen nicht immer zu überzeugen vermag, da hie und da ein wenig mehr Nuancen und Variablen sicherlich nicht verkehrt gewesen wären. Und genau das gleiche kann man auch über das Songwriting sagen, das oftmals zu lang und zu unspektakulär geraten ist. Es ist den Songs deutlich anzumerken, dass Holy Moses wieder komplexere Songs als auf dem Vorgängeralbum zocken wollten, dabei aber das wesentliche, nämlich eine kurzweilige Struktur aus den Augen verloren haben. So trifft man immer wieder auf Passagen, die zum Selbstzweck verkommen und die Songs nur künstlich in die Länge ziehen, wie z.B. die eingesteuerte Soundpassage in dem ohnehin zu langen „Pseudohalluzination“. Ich für meinen Teil habe mich oftmals dabei ertappt, dass mir die Aufmerksamkeit flöten ging, da die Songs mich aufgrund ihrer gestreckten Art einfach nicht packen konnten. Weniger wäre in diesem Fall definitiv mehr gewesen. Aus diesem Grund bekommt „Agony of Death“ von mir auch nur ein „Gut“, da der ansonsten wirklich solide Gesamteindruck von den erwähnten Mängeln beträchtlich getrübt wird.
