Nach dem vollkommen Missglückten „Framing Armageddon“ melden sich Iced Earth mit „The Crucible Of Man (Something Wicked Part 2)“ zurück, und mit ihnen auch Ex-Sänger Matt Barlow, der Tim „Ripper“ Owens am Mikrofon ersetzt.

War „Framing Armageddon“ an Belanglosigkeit fast gar nicht zu überbieten, so präsentieren sich Iced Earth auf ihrem aktuellen Werk geläutert und um die Erfahrung reicher, dass man dem Hörer nicht jeden Dreckssong zumuten kann. Dementsprechend findet man auf „The Crucible Of Man (Something Wicked Part 2“ durchwegs nur gelungene Songs, die zwar um einiges epischer als in Vergangenen Tagen ausfallen, aber dennoch die Fans wieder versöhnlich stimmen werden. Matt Barlow ist stimmlich so Fit wie in den guten alten Tagen, bevor er sich nach dem 11. September 2001 von Iced Earth verabschiedet hat. Zwar gefällt mir persönlich die Stimmlage von Ripper Owens halt immer noch besser, was aber die Hartgesottenen Iced Earth Fans wohl anders sehen. Als Anspieltipps seien an dieser Stelle das mit arabischen Klängen ausgestattete „Behold The Wicked Child“, das atmosphärisch dichte „A Gift Or A Curse“, oder auch das geniale „Divide Or Devour“ empfohlen.
