An dieser Stelle muss ich nun ganz klar meinen Hut ziehen. Denn was Scar Symmetry mit ihrem dritten Album abliefern, das kann nur als die neue Referenz in Sachen Melodic Death Metal angesehen werden. Die schwedische Band, die ja erst seit 2004 die Szene unsicher macht, lässt mit „Holographic Universe“ die Konkurrenz weit, aber wirklich verdammt weit hinter sich. Mit einer fast schon träumerischen Sicherheit gelingt Scar Symmetry die Gratwanderung zwischen Härte, eingängigen Melodien und Songstrukturen, die mal progressiv und mal geradlinig, aber immer absolut süchtig machend ausfallen. Scar Symmetry machen, auch wenn es vielleicht ein wenig unglaubwürdig klingen mag, einfach alles richtig. Schon alleine der eröffnete Hattrick „Morphogenesis“, „Timewave Zero“ und „Quantumleaper“ knallt mit solcher einer Klasse aus den Boxen, dass andere Bands dafür morden würden, um nur annährend diese Qualität zu erreichen. Und jenes Referenz-Niveau wird nachfolgend spielend leicht gehalten, mit Songs wie „Trapezoid“ und dem neunminütigen Titeltrack sogar noch ein wenig gesteigert, was wiederum aus „Holographic Universe“ ein Meisterwerk und somit sicherlich auch eines der besten Alben des Jahrgangs 2008 macht!
