Serpentcult „Weight of Light“
Wenn da mal nicht jemand ein großer Black Sabbath ist, dann weiß ich auch nicht weiter. Von meiner Warte aus betrachtet können und wollen Serpentcult ihr musikalisches Vorbild nicht verleugnen, da das Debütalbum „Weight of Light“ durch und durch von jenem Geist beseelt ist, der dank Black Sabbath Einzug in die Welt der Musik gehalten hat, nämlich Doom.
„Weight of Light“ ist ein schweres, schleppendes und vor allem düsteres Album, das gerade jetzt in der kalten Jahreszeit vollends seine Wirkung entfalten kann. Dabei steht bei Serpentcult nicht wie erwartend ein Mann hinter dem Mikro, sondern eine gar nicht mal unattraktive Frau namens Michelle, die aber neben den äußerlichen Attributen auch mit stimmlichem Talent gesegnet ist. Ihr oftmals theatralisch klagender Gesang passt perfekt zu den tonnenschweren Gitarrenriffs, die sich wie ein rot glühender Lavastrom durch „Weight of Light“ ziehen. Dabei vermag die Band sowohl mit den knackigen wie auch mit den überlangen 8-minütigen Kompositionen zu überzeugen, wobei vorallem das Gitarrendominiert „Templar“ einem nachhaltig im Gedächtnis haften bleiben wird.
Serpentcult präsentieren mit ihrem Erstling eine durchwegs gelungene Doom-Scheibe, die man jedem Fan dieses Genres ans bleierne Herz legen kann. Ich für meinen Teil werde mir den Namen Serpentcult auf alle Fälle merken, denn die Band hat ohne Zweifel Potenzial.
